This bespoke Bumbleebee birthday cake was made in our Surrey bakery and delivered to the customer's home in London. I LOVE bespoke cake commissions. We took inspiration from photos sent to us by the customer over WhatsApp of Bumblebee cakes made by other cake makers. Did I mention how much I love WhatsApp for enquiries? It's been amazing for quick and easy communication with customers.
Anyway, we don't copy cakes. Not because we can't make good copies. Not because we are snobs. But because I actually think our customers deserve unique cakes to mark their memorable occasions and also as a sign of respect to the original cake maker. Besides, creatively, it's way more fun for us to do our thing, and add our own Anges de Sucre flair to the cake design.
We've seen this trend of using plastic or styrofoam balls to decorate cakes. These items are NOT food safe and should not be in contact with cakes (you can read more about why they are not permissable here). Instead, we create hand-made chocolate spheres to decorate the cake. Edible AND delicious.
This cake could be regarded as mixed media art. We have sponge and buttercream making up the layers with black edible ink splatter. Then we have a 2D fondant Bumblebee figurine, 3D fondant wheels with edible silver paint, fondant number and name letters, edible icing Bumblebee logo and yellow chocolate spheres.
I LOVE the end result. The original cake was beautiful, but I feel with the added 2D and 3D edible elements this Bumblebee cake just POPS.
